I am the proud 4th generation owner/CEO of the House of Lights. My great grandfather and grandfather started an electrical supply business in 1918 in Portland, Maine–first called Eastern Electric and three years later Holmes Electric Supply Company. The Room of Lights was added in 1955. Over the years the name was changed to the House of Lights and the location was moved to Roundwood on the Payne Road in Scarborough in 1987. When I got involved a few years ago after the passing of my parents (Lloyd & Janet Holmes) and first husband, Bert Andrews, who also ran the business, I decided to renovate and double the showroom. I wanted to bring it into the 21st century so we could visualize the lights better with small furniture vignettes as well as larger fully-functioning kitchens, conference rooms, lighting labs and 4 distinctly-styled bathrooms. This has made all the difference in the world to our customers who are wowed daily with the results. Our goal has always been and will continue to be — treating the customer right with top service, knowledge and expertise– to stock what we show, and offer high quality products at a wide range of price points. There’s a reason why we have been in business for nearly 100 years. We are the House of Lights in Maine ” The Way Lights Should Be!”
